Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Newcastle United at the Spotify Camp Nou got off to a blistering start, with both sides exchanging goals in a frantic first 45 minutes.

By the time the referee blew for half-time, the scoreline already read 3-2 in favour of the hosts, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

Raphinha and Marc Bernal had both found the net for Barcelona within the opening half-hour, only for Anthony Elanga to respond with a brace for Newcastle, keeping the tie tantalisingly close.

The ebb and flow of the first period showcased Barcelona’s attacking creativity and Newcastle’s resilience, setting up a dramatic second half.

However, it was Lamine Yamal who ultimately stole the headlines.

The 18-year-old forward calmly converted a penalty just before the break, putting Barcelona ahead and sending the Camp Nou crowd into raptures.

That strike marked Yamal’s tenth goal in the Champions League, making him the youngest player in history to reach double figures in Europe’s premier club competition.

In doing so, Lamine Yamal has matched a record previously held by Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, who had scored ten Champions League goals before his 19th birthday.

What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that Yamal had missed a clear opportunity just minutes prior to his penalty.

Despite the miss, he maintained his composure and struck with clinical precision, demonstrating a maturity well beyond his years.

The La Masia graduate has repeatedly shown an ability to perform in high-pressure situations, and this latest landmark only cements his reputation as one of Barcelona’s brightest talents.

Beyond individual accolades, the performance also highlights Barcelona’s attacking depth and tactical flexibility under Hansi Flick, with young and experienced players combining to produce moments of brilliance.

If Yamal continues on this trajectory, he could be set to rewrite records and guide Barcelona to Champions League glory this season.
