FC Barcelona’s preparations for the new La Liga season take a crucial step as the league reaches an official decision on Joan Garcia.

FC Barcelona has been navigating a challenging period as it prepares for the upcoming La Liga season, with uncertainties surrounding its squad registration.

The club has been working diligently to ensure its new signings are eligible to compete, particularly in the goalkeeping department.

Amidst this, a significant development has emerged involving their star goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and new signing Joan Garcia, setting the stage for a resolution that strengthens the team’s prospects.

La Liga’s Medical Committee has officially approved Barcelona’s medical report for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, confirming that his injury meets the criteria for a long-term absence, as reported in a statement from FC Barcelona.

This pivotal ruling allows the club to register Joan Garcia, their new goalkeeper, under special regulations.

Barcelona announced that the paperwork to formalize Garcia’s registration will be completed immediately, ensuring his availability for selection in the squad.

This decision marks a critical step forward for the club as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the absence of their first-choice goalkeeper.

The approval follows a period of tension between Ter Stegen and the club. Initially, the German goalkeeper hesitated to consent to the submission of his medical report, believing his recovery would take less than three months, which would not qualify as a long-term injury under La Liga rules.

This reluctance led to friction, with Barcelona taking drastic measures, including stripping Ter Stegen of the captaincy and opening an internal case.

However, Ter Stegen eventually agreed to the process last Friday, paving the way for today’s ruling.

With Ter Stegen sidelined, Barcelona can now utilize 40% of his salary to register Garcia, with the potential to increase to 80% if the recovery extends to five months.

This financial flexibility provides a boost as the transfer window remains open. Garcia is now set to be available for Hansi Flick’s squad in their La Liga opener against Mallorca on August 16, ensuring Barcelona’s goalkeeping strength remains intact.
