Barcelona are once again at the centre of a legal storm in Spanish football as tensions with La Liga president Javier Tebas continue to escalate.

The Catalan club’s financial affairs have been under intense scrutiny in recent years, with UEFA Financial Fair Play investigations and public disputes over budgets and registrations dominating headlines.

Clubs across Europe are closely watching the developments, as they could set precedents for transparency and governance in top-flight football.

Fans and pundits alike are questioning the balance of power between league authorities and clubs, with accusations of bias and confidentiality breaches sparking heated debate.

Meanwhile, other La Liga teams, including Real Madrid, are reportedly observing the situation carefully, given the potential implications for their own operations.

The latest chapter comes via Miguel Angel Galan, president of the Association for Transparency and Democracy in Sport, who has submitted a 50-page formal complaint against Tebas.

Galan accuses the La Liga chief of committing five “very serious violations” by disclosing confidential information about Barcelona’s finances without permission.

The complaint has been lodged with the Higher Sports Council, which will determine whether to refer it to the Administrative Sports Tribunal — a move that could ultimately lead to Tebas’ disqualification.

The allegations relate to an April 2025 incident in which La Liga publicly claimed Barcelona had failed to record €100 million from VIP box sales on time.

Barcelona argued that this statement breached confidentiality, prompting La Liga to later retract it.

Galan also claims Javier Tebas shared sensitive financial details with Athletic Club during discussions about the potential signing of Nico Williams.

“In my capacity as president of the Association for Transparency and Democracy in Sport, I feel compelled to file a complaint in defence of the collective interests of the members of Futbol Club Barcelona and its fans,” Galan told AS.

“Unfortunately, the president of Barcelona, after issuing a statement condemning and denouncing the violation, has not taken any effective measures to address the situation.

“Therefore, I feel obliged to denounce the misconduct committed by the president of La Liga.”

Galan added: “The president’s attitude, which has belittled the two most important clubs in the world — FC Barcelona and Real Madrid — must cease immediately… Now, it is imperative that Tebas face similar consequences, as his behaviour resembles that of those we criticise.”

The Higher Sports Council now faces a pivotal decision that could reshape the accountability of La Liga leadership and have lasting consequences for the Catalan giants.
