Among the players poised to depart, one young defender’s absence from first-team training on Saturday has signaled an imminent move.

With head coach Hansi Flick reshaping the squad for the 2025-26 season, this player’s departure is part of a broader strategy to prioritize squad depth and provide opportunities for emerging talents elsewhere, while maintaining control over their long-term future.

The defender in question is Hector Fort, a 19-year-old La Masia graduate who has been deemed surplus to requirements in Flick’s plans.

Fort, who can operate as a full-back on either flank, is behind at least two players in each position, prompting Barcelona to arrange a loan move.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Mallorca is the frontrunner to secure his signature, with the deal hinging on the La Liga club finalizing the transfer of their own right-back, Pablo Maffeo, to Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro.

Fort’s absence from training and exclusion from the matchday squad for Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano further underscores the likelihood of his exit.

Instead, he will play a friendly with Barca Atletic to maintain his fitness.

Initially, there were speculations of a permanent transfer, but Barcelona opted to retain control over Fort’s future, recognizing the potential he displayed during his first-team debut under former coach Xavi Hernandez.

A loan move to Mallorca, where he could gain regular playing time, aligns with the club’s vision to nurture his development.

With less than 72 hours until the transfer deadline, the process is reportedly nearing completion, pending Maffeo’s departure.

Fort’s move highlights Barcelona’s delicate balancing act of managing squad dynamics and financial fair play regulations. While his exit will provide temporary relief, the club remains optimistic about his long-term potential.
