Key Bayern midfielder could join Barcelona, legend reveals

Bayern Munich legend fears star midfielder may join Barcelona next summer

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has once again been linked with a potential move to La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.

The speculation arises amidst continued doubts regarding the German international’s future plans beyond this season.

Kimmich, whose current deal at the Allianz Arena runs until the summer of 2025, has so far resisted Bayern Munich’s attempts to extend his stay at the club.

In a recent interview with Abendzeitung, referenced by Mundo Deportivo, Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus suggested that Kimmich could reunite with former Bayern coach Hansi Flick in Catalonia.

“Bayern boast a fantastic squad, an attractive playing style, and a strong team spirit,” Matthäus noted. “But perhaps Kimmich is eager to explore a new challenge. We all know that Hansi Flick, now at Barcelona, greatly values him…”

The former German international went on to say:

“It would be a huge loss for Bayern if he were to leave. Kimmich is a model professional and, along with Musiala, represents the future of the club.

Losing another key player on a free transfer, as happened with Alaba, would be a significant blow. His circumstances under Kompany have shifted, but it’s vital to move forward and work towards a resolution.”
