Key Barcelona midfielder to stay despite receiving ‘huge’ offer from Napoli

A key Barcelona midfielder to stay at the club despite receiving ‘huge’ offer from Napoli

Earlier this summer, there were strong indications that Oriol Romeu would part ways with FC Barcelona in the current transfer window.

The seasoned veteran player had fallen out of favor with former manager Xavi Hernandez during the latter part of the previous season. The club had intentions of securing a new defensive midfielder this summer.

Surprisingly, Barcelona’s new coach, Hansi Flick, promptly backed Romeu to stay. After just a few training sessions, Flick expressed his support for Romeu, praising his positional awareness, physical prowess, and invaluable experience.

Flick’s confidence in Romeu surpassed that of younger players and other potential midfield candidates. It would take a compelling offer to alter this decision, and indeed, several tempting offers have already surfaced, with the most prominent one coming from Italy, though it has been rejected for now, per Mundo Deportivo.

A Serie A club reached out to Barcelona with a proposal, but Oriol Romeu turned it down due to the club not being involved in any European competitions. Sources suggest that the interested club is likely Napoli, although this is yet to be confirmed.

Oriol Romeu reportedly turned down their offer because they do not play in European competitions.
