FC Barcelona had an unexpected winter transfer window with no player transferred in. Instead, the club’s sporting director decided to renew the contracts of essential players.
The Blaugrana have recently announced contract extensions for players such as Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin, Pedri, Gavi, and Pau Cubarsi.
The club put the renewal on hold and hoped for the successful transfer of out-of-favour Brazilian player Vitor Roque to Palmeiras, which would give the club the economic ability to renew two essential players before the summer.
With the deal closed, the Catalan club are poised to announce an extension for experienced defender Inigo Martinez, whose contract expires after this season.
According to a recent source, Barcelona has initiated contract talks with Raphinha to secure the Brazilian’s long-term future. The Catalan giants also want to announce a new contract for Yamal, who is in the final 18 months of his current term.
Barcelona to Extend Yamal’s Contract
The 17-year-old has previously stated his intention to sign a new contract, and his agent has reinforced this position following a meeting with Laporta and sporting director Deco in Lisbon ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League match against Benfica.
Speaking to Spanish media, Mendes said: “Lamine is going to continue at Barca; the important thing now is to think about sporting matters.”
Yamal cannot sign a new contract for more than three years until he turns 18 in July, but an arrangement is said to be in place for him to commit his future to the club until 2030.
The 17-year-old has been outstanding in Hansi Flick’s debut season as Barcelona’s head coach, scoring 11 goals and assisting 16 times in 35 matches across all competitions.
Yamal will be crucial if Barcelona want to make this season memorable, with the Blaugrana aiming for trophies in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.
