Barcelona president Joan Laporta has broken his silence on the escalating investigation into La Liga chief Javier Tebas.

Speaking before a key match, Laporta expressed his concerns about an ongoing investigation into Tebas, which he described as “not good news” during a time when the relationship between Barcelona and La Liga had been slowly improving after years of tension.

Joan Laporta emphasized the detrimental timing of the case, highlighting his hope for stability in a period critical for both the sport and the club, as reported by Catalunya Radio.

The investigation, initiated by the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD), centers on serious allegations against Tebas pertaining to breaches of confidentiality regarding sensitive information about Barcelona.

Specifically, the case involves the handling of confidential data related to the sale of VIP boxes at the new Spotify Camp Nou, along with Tebas’ reported discussions with Athletic Club concerning the release clause of player Nico Williams.

Laporta clarified that these issues did not originate from Barcelona but suggested that external parties may be pushing for Tebas’ dismissal.

He expressed skepticism about the motivations behind the push to oust Tebas, saying, “I don’t quite trust them,” and hinted at unseen forces working behind the scenes.

While both Barça and Tebas had previously settled the matter privately, the reopening of the investigation has raised questions about the future of La Liga’s leadership.

Possible sanctions against Tebas could range from warnings to temporary suspension or, in the worst-case scenario, removal from office.

Despite this turbulent backdrop, Laporta reaffirmed his focus on maintaining the club’s sporting priorities while navigating the broader political challenges currently facing Spain’s top football league.

The president reaffirmed his commitment to steering the club through this turbulent period, ensuring that the focus remains on sporting excellence and upholding the integrity of football.
