After Barcelona’s La Liga title win, president Joan Laporta explained the club’s financial situation, with specific regard to their compliance with Financial Fair Play (FFP).

Due to the parameters within La Liga’s salary cap rules, the Blaugrana faced a difficult transition over the last number of years.

Earlier this year, Barcelona sold VIP box seats at the new Camp Nou, which ultimately brought in a €100 million deal from the construction of the new Spotify Camp Nou as they were working to get back to a 1:1 FFP situation.

La Liga revoked the rule previously, citing that the VIP box seats are still under construction and could not be included in this year’s finances.

Joan Laporta now claims that Barcelona are back in the 1:1 FFP rule and can sign players during the Summer Transfer Window.

As reported by Diario Sport, he hopes, “We are in the 1:1 rule and I hope it doesn’t change in a lot of years.

Joan Laporta continued the statement that the VIP box seats, which are being built by Limak (The construction firm), are mostly finished and hopefully will be taken into account, which will boost the salary cap for the club.

“They are already in situ, yes, they can probably be taken into account this month,” and added that it’s up to La Liga for the approval based on the budgets presented.

Although there was a positive feeling, Laporta also acknowledged issues around the “sui generis” financial fair play rules in La Liga that could be interpreted on a whim.

And he remained optimistic that sporting director Deco was thinking of next season already. “We can sign, of course.

It will always be difficult, but it will be nicer when it happens,” Laporta said. With money from VIP seats to level out their finances, Barcelona could have a busy transfer window buying players and looking to build on their recent domestic success while still trying to find financial freedom.
