La Liga chief Javier Tebas has criticized the Higher Sports Council (CSD) vigorously for approving the registration of Barcelona’s Dani Olmo and Pau Victor following the league’s initial rejection of their licenses.

The controversy started in January when La Liga denied the registrations on procedural grounds.

Barcelona had appealed to the CSD, which took interim measures before eventually ruling in their favor.

Tebas, never shy of expressing himself, was not coy in his reply.

In an expansive social media post, he described the CSD’s ruling as “disproportionate” and “excessively formalist” and claimed that it disregarded the proper legal process.

He came to the defense of La Liga’s actions, claiming that the league had done everything according to procedure and that the CSD’s decision would be detrimental to the stability of the Spanish football regulatory system.

“The cancellation of the Monitoring Commission’s contract is legally unjust and overly detail-fixated,” Tebas explained.

“This is a case where the issue at bar—that the decision was already made in accordance with the law—is ignored, and a detail of a single word is magnified so as to validate what seems to be a political move and not legal.”

He also spoke about concern regarding the long-term effect of the verdict, cautioning that it’s a dangerous precedent.

“If any properly approved decision can be overturned due to trivial technicalities in subsequent reports, we’re entering very risky terrain,” he added.

“It’s not merely a case—it’s safeguarding fair procedures and legal certainty in Spanish football.”

La Liga announced that it will appeal the CSD’s decision, so the battle is not yet won.

The ruling could have huge implications for the way player registrations and league regulations are handled going forward.

In the short term, Olmo and Victor remain able to play for Barcelona, but Tebas’s combative reaction makes clear that this battle is not over two players—it’s over who controls the rules of Spanish football.
