While Barcelona has opened itself to offers for a defender, the player is equally determined to stay under Hansi Flick, despite generally prohibitive playing time next season.
A long-time centre-back for the Catalonian giants, this resilient player boasts experience in handling persistent injury challenges, and apparent interest in him from abroad concerning a potential transfer could cause a club to ponder a sale.
The defender has generated a new interest among clubs with interest in him abroad, as his contract is entering the final year shortly, and age, with relevance to his position, is acting against him for a contract extension, as per Diario Sport.
The player in question is Andreas Christensen, the Danish defender with an available contract until 2026, who characterized his situation as currently “settled,” enjoying being at Barcelona, and who plans on his Spain continued journey as he closes in on the start of his next journey next season.
Christensen’s camp has suggested that, in essence, unless something changes significantly from now until the transfer window closes, he intends to stay.
In fact, even with an initial listed offer reportedly by Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, of remuneration double ineligibility for a contract from Barcelona for a contract renewal would still illustrate he is long-term settled.
Hansi Flick appreciates Christensen’s versatility and contributions, especially last season when the defender came back from injury with a big impact.
But, with more than enough centre-backs in the squad, Barcelona realizes that a sale could help with the team balance and finances.
If serious offers come in, the club will consult with Christensen, not wanting to put pressure on him to go.
Right now, he’s only thinking about seeing out his contract, and that keeps him at the Camp Nou, and likely for the 2025/26 season.
Christensen’s commitment also shows he wants to prove himself, and the competition for places in Barcelona’s defence continues to get stronger.
