Marc-Andre Ter Stegen picked up a nasty injury during a La Liga game and has since sat out of action. The injury has been good news in another way, with the resurgence of Wojciech Szczesny.
Wojciech Szczesny has established himself as the starting goalkeeper over the last couple of months after signing just a one-year contract with the club.
Szczesny to Receive New Contract Offer
Wojciech Szczesny appears set to be kept for 12 months at the club. There is further speculation that Inaki Pena, who would be Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s backup, could leave in the summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick was questioned regarding the topic during his pre-match press conference. Although he refused to comment on whether Szczesny would be allowed to stay, he did express his satisfaction with the Polish goalkeeper.
Hansi Flick said: “I have not offered anything to any player; it is the work of Deco and the club. We are happy with him, but it is the work of Deco. We’re happy with him; that’ll be what I can say.”
With Marc aiming to return in April, it remains to be seen how the club will resolve the goalkeeper’s decision.
