Barcelona’s decision to appoint Hansi Flick back in the summer of 2024 came at a pivotal moment for a club still rebuilding both on and off the pitch.
His arrival brought immediate results, a 28th league title secured alongside the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup, an unprecedented domestic treble that included four wins over Real Madrid in a single season.
Flick followed that up by retaining the title in 2025/26, finishing with 94 points and 95 goals scored as Barcelona claimed back-to-back Supercopas amid a chaotic year for their fiercest rivals.
That sustained success has now delivered a personal milestone Flick had never previously reached at any top-level club or national team.
As reported by MARCA, Flick’s two biggest managerial roles before Barcelona, at Bayern Munich and with Germany, both fell short of three full seasons.
His time in Catalonia has now surpassed that mark entirely, with Barcelona eight matches into a third campaign that has started perfectly, all six league fixtures won and Barcelona sitting top of the table.
Flick’s Bayern spell began in November 2019 after taking temporary charge following Niko Kovac’s dismissal, and produced an extraordinary treble in his first season, the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League all won as Bayern went unbeaten through Europe’s premier competition.
A further Bundesliga title followed alongside the German Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup, seven major trophies in under eighteen months, yet Flick still chose to leave in the summer of 2021 despite a contract running until 2023.
His time with the German national team proved even shorter, taking charge in September 2021 only to be dismissed two years later, on 10 September 2023, following a heavy defeat to Japan.
Barcelona have proven a different proposition entirely. Flick’s relationship with president Joan Laporta was central to his appointment, and he has since described managing the Catalan giants as one of the major ambitions of his career.
“This will be my last job, and I am really happy about that,” Flick said earlier this year. “Everyone knows I am really happy here. I feel the support of everyone in Barcelona.”
His contract now runs until June 2028, with the club already working on a further extension, and Flick has overseen five trophies across his tenure while equalling the club’s second-best ever start to a league campaign in his first season.
Barcelona also became only the third club in La Liga history to complete a perfect home league campaign under Hansi Flick, a feat previously achieved just twice before, both in shorter seasons with fewer matches.
His faith in Barcelona’s academy has been a defining feature too, with thirteen La Masia graduates making their first-team debuts under his management, including Marc Bernal, Pau Cubarsi and, most recently, Alvaro Cortes.
The one persistent blemish remains Europe, with Barcelona eliminated in the Champions League semi-finals in 2024/25 and the quarter-finals last season, a ceiling Flick will be desperate to finally break through as his historic third season continues.
