Barcelona’s season opener against RCD Mallorca is fast approaching, and anticipation around Hansi Flick’s first competitive game in charge continues to grow.

The German manager has been tasked with reshaping the team, balancing the immediate pressure of results with the long-term project the club insists is central to its future.

With new signings now officially registered, excitement among supporters is building, but the squad still has notable absences.

Injuries remain a constant theme for the Catalan giants, forcing Flick and his staff to manage resources carefully as they prepare for a demanding campaign.

One of the most frequently discussed subjects has been the fitness of a promising academy graduate whose progress has been closely monitored by the coaching team.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick offered an update on injured midfielder Marc Bernal and when we might expect to see the youngster back in action again.

Marc Bernal is closing in on a return to full fitness, and was part of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, but did not feature as he continues his recovery programme.

Flick was asked about Bernal ahead of the season opener against Mallorca and had the following to say:

”When he was injured, the doctors told me that, at this age, it is necessary to have a year for him to improve and consolidate,” he told his press conference.

“It’s what we do.

“It’s not two or three weeks, it’s a whole race.

“We have to prepare him for the next 15 years.

“He is on the right track, he is working very hard. We will see him soon.”

It’s been reported recently that Bernal won’t appear until September at the earliest, with Barcelona being understandably cautious with his recovery.

The 18-year-old midfielder is considered one of La Masia’s brightest prospects, and the club are determined not to rush his return.

Instead, Barcelona are focused on protecting his long-term development, emphasising that his career must be built carefully rather than jeopardised by short-term demands.

Flick’s words highlight the faith placed in Bernal’s potential, with the manager clearly seeing him as a cornerstone for the club’s next generation.

While supporters may have to wait a little longer to see him back on the pitch, the message from the manager is clear: patience now could pay off for the next 15 years at Camp Nou.
