A few days ago it was reported that Neymar Jr and his team are seeking out a return to Barcelona next summer.
The 33-year-old recently cut short his contract with Al-Hilal and rejoined his boyhood club, Santos, on a six-month deal.
Despite returning back to his home country for the remainder of the season, reports stated it will only be a short-term deal as the Brazilian sees himself returning to Europe.
With Barcelona at the top of his list, questions about his return started to crop up, such as ‘Can Barca afford him’ and ‘Do Barcelona need him’.
It is common knowledge that the Blaugrana’s finances are not ideal so if Neymar is asking for similar wages he was on at PSG and Al-Hilal then a deal will almost certainly not happen.
With regards to Barça needing the 33-year-old, the one position that does need strengthening is the left wing and names such as Luis Diaz and Nico Williams have all been rumoured to be targets in recent months.
Hansi Flick will most likely have the final say on whether Neymar rejoins and unfortunately for the former Barcelona player, it does not seem positive, if the news is to be believed.
Joan Fontes, via Managing Barca, has reported that Flick is not convinced by the Brazilian’s return as he believes it is not a good idea.
Even though Ney is a Barca legend, the club has moved on. Bringing him in could disrupt the dressing room and the questions around his wages/signing bonus seem to make a deal improbable.
Who knows though, anything can happen and it could potentially open the door for a Lionel Messi return during the MLS winter break next year.
