Barcelona are gearing up for their pre-season tour of Asia, with manager Hansi Flick making critical decisions to shape the squad for the upcoming campaign.
The German coach has been working with a large group of players during pre-season training at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, evaluating both first-team stars and promising youngsters from La Masia.
With the team set to depart for Japan on Thursday to face Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul, and FC Daegu, Flick has had to trim his roster to a manageable size.
The tour is seen as a vital opportunity to test tactical systems and integrate new talent, but not all players will make the journey, as the coach prioritizes performance and tactical fit.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick has finalized a 26-man squad for the tour, leaving several players behind.
Notable exclusions include Marc-André ter Stegen, who is sidelined with a back injury, and youngsters Jan Virgili, Landry Farré, and Juan Hernandez, who will continue training with Barça Atlètic.
However, Hansi Flick has included five youth players: Jofre Torrents, Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, Toni Fernandez, Guille Fernandez, and new signing Roony Bardghji.
Inaki Pena, despite not being in Flick’s long-term plans, will also travel, as his potential transfer remains unresolved.
Marcus Rashford, recently signed on loan from Manchester United, is confirmed for the trip, adding star power to the squad.
The inclusion of young talents like Torrents, a promising left-back, and Bardghji, a dynamic right-winger, reflects Flick’s commitment to nurturing La Masia prospects.
Meanwhile, the absence of players like Andreas Christensen, who is considered transferable, signals Flick’s intent to streamline the squad.
The tour will serve as a testing ground for both established players and emerging stars, with Flick emphasizing competition and merit.
As Barcelona prepare for a demanding season, this pre-season tour will be crucial in setting the tone for Flick’s vision at the club.
