Following an exhilarating semi-final with Inter Milan, Hansi Flick led Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League adventure to a crushing halt.

The first leg ended 3-3, and the return leg also ended 3-3, bringing the tie to a close in extra-time with Davide Frattesi giving Inter a 4-3 victory.

Hansi Flick spoke to the media after the match about a number of things, while being proud of the effort from his players but frustrated with the final outcome, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“I’m happy with what my players put into that game,” Flick said to reporters, “I’m disappointed about the end result, I am not disappointed with my team.”

In his post-match remarks Hansi Flick acknowledged Inter’s quality, highlighted their impressive strikers and organisation defensively, whilst still ensuring that Barcelona wanted to continue learning and getting better.

With El Clásico just around the corner, Hansi Flick also shifted his thoughts towards the La Liga title race, stating, “We play to win trophies, and we have a very difficult match on Sunday.”

However, Flick’s initial post-match comments took an unexpected twist when he criticized referee Szymon Marciniak.

“We feel the resulting result is unjust on the basis of some questionable refereeing decisions,” Flick explained, referring to a number of 50-50 calls that he felt were handled in Inter’s favour.

Although Hansi Flick wouldn’t elaborate further, adding “I don’t like to talk about the referee anymore,” Flick’s comments evidenced an impression of unfairness that compounded the disappointment of the loss.

But Hansi Flick remained upbeat, stating that Barcelona’s Champions League ambitions would continue; “Winning the Champions League was our objective, and it will be again.”

Flick said in conclusion, implying there was a desire to recover from the defeat and pursue silverware in year ahead.
