Yesterday, it was reported in Spain and Italy that Juventus had made the first move for Ronald Araújo.
Unfortunately for the Serie A side, this bid was immediately rejected as it did not reach Barcelona’s valuation of around €80million.
Despite reports have claiming that the Blaugrana would consider selling the 25-year-old if that price is met and Araújo asks to leave, Hansi Flick has recently reiterated the importance of the Uruguayan.
Speaking in his press conference prior to the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, via ManagingBarca, the German coached answered a question about the Uruguayan’s future at Barcelona.
“I want Araújo in my team because he is one of the best defenders. He’s a professional and is now fit, having recovered from his injury, so he can help us.”
Whilst it was always unlikely that Flick was going to admit the club would sell him this January, it could be a sign that Araújo has a chance of regaining his starting spot under German.
Even though Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez have massively impressed this season, everyone knows the quality that the 25-year-old possesses, including Flick.
There is also still a lot of football to play and as things stand, Barça are in every competition, meaning there will be plenty of minutes available if Araùjo does decide to stay.
