Barcelona supporters have spent much of the season waiting for encouraging news regarding one of the club’s most passionate young players.
The midfielder’s absence has been felt both on and off the pitch, with the team missing his relentless energy and intensity in the middle of the park.
In recent months, the coaching staff have been careful not to rush his recovery despite growing excitement among fans.
Manager Hansi Flick has repeatedly emphasised patience when discussing the player’s rehabilitation in his press conferences.
Now, however, there are growing signs that Barcelona could finally be approaching a long-awaited moment.
That player is Gavi, who may soon return to competitive action after several months on the sidelines.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the midfielder could feature during Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga clash with Sevilla FC on Sunday, March 15.
If he does take to the pitch, it would mark his first appearance in more than five months.
The young Spaniard has been recovering since undergoing surgery on his right knee following a meniscus injury.
The procedure took place on 23 September, when doctors carried out arthroscopic surgery to repair damage to the medial meniscus.
At the time, Barcelona estimated his recovery period would take roughly four to five months.
That timeframe technically ended on 23 February, but the club have deliberately avoided rushing the midfielder back into competitive matches.
Recent progress suggests the 21-year-old is now close to receiving full medical and sporting clearance.
His rehabilitation has gone smoothly, and he was even included in the squad for the recent match against Newcastle United, although he did not step onto the field.
Flick has hinted that the safest route might still be to wait until after the upcoming international break before reintroducing him fully.
Despite that cautious approach, optimism is growing that he could make a brief appearance against Sevilla if conditions allow.
There is also a deeper emotional element to the potential return.
Barcelona believe bringing him back in front of the home supporters could provide a huge psychological lift after such a long period away from football.
The match itself is expected to draw more than 62,000 fans to Spotify Camp Nou, creating a special atmosphere.
Adding even more significance to the occasion, the fixture will also coincide with the club’s presidential elections.
If the match situation allows it, the plan would be to introduce Gavi for a few minutes late in the game.
For Barcelona supporters, even a short cameo would represent a powerful step in the midfielder’s long journey back to full fitness.
