As Barcelona grapples with La Liga’s stringent Financial Fair Play constraints, a promising young forward edges closer to a summer departure.
One of those players on the verge of leaving is a young forward, whose limited opportunities under manager Hansi Flick have led to contention from his old club, meaning he could be back somewhere familiar.
While the Blaugrana looks to cut their wages, this could be a win-win-win due to regular minutes elsewhere for the player and clear space in Barcelona’s wage bill.
The player is Pau Victor, a 23-year-old attacker who joined Barcelona from Girona in 2023, as reported by Diario Sport.
Victor first joined Barcelona on loan, but after having success with Barça Atlètic, he was signed permanently and made the first team last season.
After just 379 minutes played this season (29 matches and only two starts), he has not found ways to earn playing time with a strong attacking group including Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres.
Since Victor came through the youth system at Girona, it is not surprising to see them emerge as a destination for the player, who has been linked as a potential option to re-sign him.
Previous dealings between Barcelona and Girona through loans of Pablo Torre and Eric Garcia suggest a loan or sale with a buy-back option is likely to retain control over his future.
Victor’s transfer is in line with the club’s wider strategy of clearing out peripheral players in and around the squad, with Ansu Fati close to joining AS Monaco, whilst Clement Lenglet has already departed.
Valued at around €5 million, Victor is also attracting interest from Sevilla and other La Liga teams.
As Barcelona starts to pursue new attacking additions, a return to Girona might provide Victor the opportunity to rekindle his promising career and still help Barça recover financially.
