Barcelona’s winger Raphinha will not be disciplined even though he had a tempestuous outburst at the end of a recent game.
The Brazilian lost his cool following a shady refereeing call and was placated by teammates and boss Hansi Flick.
The drama began in the dying minutes when the referee waved away a potential corner kick and instead blew the final whistle.
Raphinha, incensed, had a run-in with the assistant referee and was restrained by Robert Lewandowski, Flick, and Marc-André ter Stegen.
At some point, Ter Stegen tried to restrain him to prevent suspension, but Raphinha swept his arm aside while continuing to protest.
To Raphinha’s relief, there was no mention of the incident in the official report of the referee, so nothing will be done.
If the officials had put it in their post-match report, however, the player would have been suspended or fined.
Barcelona will be thankful to avoid another disciplinary issue, especially with important games on the horizon. Raphinha’s demeanor is a concern for the club.
