Barcelona have begun planning for the summer transfer window. While Deco is in charge, Hansi Flick is determined to make a significant impact. There are expected to be few acquisitions, mainly because the Catalan club still have serious financial problems despite returning to La Liga’s 1:1 ratio in January.
Deco wants to bring in a new attacker, but Flick is more concerned with defensive recruitment. Jonathan Tah is set to sign as a free agent after his contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires. If Barcelona’s head coach has his way, another defender will join him.
Hansi Flick Insists on Defensive Player
According to Sport, Flick wants Barcelona to sign a new full-back, preferably one who can play on both the right and left.
Flick believes Barcelona’s defensive balance may improve for big games like the 4-4 tie with Atletico Madrid earlier this week. He believes that an ambidextrous full-back will round out his defensive group, and the club agrees; as a result, they will go to considerable measures to guarantee that his desire is met.
Currently, Barcelona has a player who fits this profile: Hector Fort. However, his lack of regular first-team participation suggests that he is not excessively relied upon by Flick for the time being. He was loaned away for the 2025–26 season to get regular playing time.
It will be intriguing to see who Barcelona target as full-back possibilities this summer. There are not too many options accessible to them that can play on either flank, especially considering that they will not want to pay too much because the player arriving would not do so as a starter but as a backup option to Jules Kounde and Balde.
