Barcelona has received worthy news after a disappointing match yesterday against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey competition, in which the defense performed poorly.

Despite their goal-scoring spree, Barcelona have conceded more goals than they did in either of Xavi’s full seasons. The good defensive days of the Xavi era can be attributed to the high availability of BACK (Balde, Araujo, Christensen, and Kounde).

Barcelona defender Christensen has been medically passed fit by the club, and his return to the squad could bolster their defence as the club have mostly had Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Eric Garcia as options for the central position, with Ronald Araujo epileptic fitness.

Barcelona’s Defender Medically Fit to Compete

After playing his first match of 2024/2025 as a substitute against Valencia, Danish defender Andreas Bødtker Christensen underwent surgery for a constantly problematic Achilles tendon injury. The decision to undergo surgery saw the defender out of action for over five months.

Despite returning from injury in January, the player suffered a fresh injury in training and has been out for four weeks but is now medically fit to compete again.

According to MD, club officials have confirmed that Christensen has been passed fit medically but might be too soon to be available for the Real Sociedad clash at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Sunday.

Hansi Flick’s side would depend on the Danish defender’s skills in the season’s final stretch, but a move from the Catalan club in the summer of 2025 is not ruled out.

Christensen has been linked with a move to another club for several months following the club’s interest in Bayern Leverkusen and Germany defender Jonathan Tah.

On the injury list, the club only has choice goalkeeper Ter Stegen, who is already training on grass and hopes to return to club action in April.

Marc Bernal, who suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during a match against Rayo Vallecano back in August, will not be playing again this season.
