In what appears to be long-awaited, the Uruguayan center-back Ronald Araújo has finally penned down a new contract with the Catalans until 2031.
The just-concluded winter transfer window was an unsettling one for most curlers who were looking forward to the outcome of the saga with Serie A side Juventus.
Finally, on January 23, 2025, the club reported that the Uruguayan centre-back had agreed to a contract extension, but the release clause was not revealed.
With the renewal announced, it was inevitable that his former release clause of €1 billion would be reduced drastically to €65 million.
Cadena SER have revealed further information about the new contract, stating that the clause could be activated if the centre-back decides to leave the Catalan club.
It was further revealed that the €65 million release clause would only be effective for the first ten days of the summer transfer market, after which there must be a negotiation on the price with Barcelona if such a case happens.
Having returned from injury, Ronald Araujo is yet to find a place in the starting XI, as Hansi Flick looks to have fallen in love with Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubasi during his injury stint.
