A 2023 court ruling has ensured a key FC Barcelona star’s registration, solidifying their place in Hansi Flick’s squad.

The club has had to navigate through La Liga’s stringent Financial Fair Play (FFP) measures, which complicated the ability to register players, as evidenced by recent signings like Joan Garcia and Nico Williams.
Outstanding luck from a legal victory from 2023 continues to offer Barcelona relief to focus on on-pitch ambitions without immediate instruction to re-register a key player.
That player is Gavi, the 20-year-old La Masia graduate who has quickly become a supporter favorite through his competitive fire and innate ability.
According to Mundo Deportivo, a National Court ruling on June 6, 2023, granted Barcelona a precautionary measure to register Gavi as a first-team player or at least in the first team contingent.
Initially, La Liga did not sanction that registration due to FFP violations, the ruling remains in effect, which guarantees that Gavi is legally protected and on the roster, and without the salary cap space that Barcelona has to create.
Since there is no confirmed date in the ongoing dispute with La Liga, Gavi’s registration is currently safe, excellent news for both Gavi and Barcelona as they prepare to return to Spotify Camp Nou.
The importance of Gavi to Barcelona cannot be understated. Coming off an ACL injury from November 2023, Gavi was able to contribute three goals and three assists in 42 games last year.
As Barcelona devises plans to register new signings and avoid a potential UEFA sanction for the breach of FFP guidelines, this decision provides some security during a tumultuous time, allowing them to commit to forming a trifecta of competitive squads around the most exciting young talent they have ever developed.
