Against Rayo Vallecano, Jules Kounde was dropped for La Masia’s Hector Fort due to him being late for a pre-match meeting.
This decision came as a massive shock as the Frenchman has been key to Barca’s success this campaign, being solid defensively and also linking up really well with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
After the game, the German coach confirmed why Kounde was dropped and said they would deal with the issue internally.
Hansi Flick asks for right-back reinforcements
It could be that Flick is not convinced with Kounde but according to Fichajes, the former Bayern Munich manager has apparently told Deco that he is prioritising a new right-back next summer and sees the position as an area that needs ‘significant improvement’.
Barcelona have now reportedly shortlisted three right-back options that Flick would be happy with and are currently monitoring the trio.
Yan Couto – Borussia Dortmund
Yan Couto is the first name on the list who is owned by Manchester City but has been on loan with Borussia Dortmund this season and the German side have triggered their €30million option to buy him.
The Brazilian spent three years on loan with Girona and has a proven track record competing in La Liga.
It is reported that the 22-year-old was in Barca’s ‘orbit’ last season and with him not being a regular starter at Dortmund they could look to sell if a suitable offer comes in.
Vanderson – Monaco
Monaco’s 23-year-old Brazilian fullback Vanderson has been very impressive since signing from Gremio in 2022.
The report states that he is one of Deco’s favourite options but that the Monegasque club will not part ways with him lightly and are expecting a high fee if he is sold.
Oscar Mingueza – Celta Vigo
Oscar Mingueza is apparently the ‘low-cost alternative’ for Barca as the club still owns 50% of his rights from when they let him join Celta Vigo for free in 2022.
Despite him being the cheaper option, it is understood that his more defensive playstyle may not be the profile that Flick is looking for.
