The summer transfer window is in full swing, and Bayern Munich is preparing to make a significant defensive acquisition.
Diario Sport reports indicate that a Bundesliga behemoth has rekindled its interest in a central player from Barcelona, believing he can solve their backline issue.
The Catalan team, while strong at center back, views this player as a must-have.
A captain on the field and a favorite of head coach Hansi Flick, him being on the pitch is key to their structure.
However, Barcelona is always financially rivaled, and they have no true assets if a big enough return could balance their books.
That player is Ronald Araújo. The Uruguayan defender, valued at around €50 million, has long been coveted by Bayern Munich.
Although he signed a contract extension last year and publicly declared his loyalty to Barcelona, it is reported that he has a unique clause in his contract permitting him to leave at a particular time in July.
While his release clause is €65 million, Bayern feels confident they can negotiate him for less than that.
After a tough season, the German champions intend to completely reshuffle their defence.
Kim Min-jae’s uncertain future might create financial and spatial room for Araújo, who is enormously physical and capable of leading and motivating the team, just what Bayern want right now.
Of course, this will depend heavily on the 25-year-old himself deciding to remain at his beloved Barcelona or take a new opportunity in Munich.
For now, Barcelona remains calm and trusts in Araújo’s desire to remain at the club and commitment to the project.
However, as the July date nears, it will be interesting to see if Bayern can tempt one of Barcelona’s most important players away from the team with their continued interest and the opportunity of starting afresh.
