Barcelona have long built their identity around giving young players a pathway from La Masia into the first team.
That production line remains central to the club’s plans, with the academy continuing to develop players who could eventually become important figures at Camp Nou.
Not every prospect enjoys a straightforward rise, though, and some are forced to overcome major setbacks before getting their opportunity at senior level.
Sama Nomoko is one of those young players whose progress has been interrupted at a crucial stage of his development.
The 18-year-old winger had started making an impression with Barca Atletic before suffering a serious knee injury late last year.
Barcelona are now working on a new contract for Nomoko as they look to secure his long-term future at the club, despite the teenager currently being sidelined, as per Mundo Deportivo.
Nomoko’s current deal runs until June 2027, but Barça want to extend that agreement and keep one of their highly rated La Masia prospects tied down for several more years.
The renewal is not considered an immediate priority, but the club’s willingness to work on his future highlights the confidence they continue to have in his potential.
Born in 2008, Nomoko has stood out for his pace, one-on-one ability and movement into the penalty area, qualities that helped him progress into the Barca Atletic setup.
He had made 14 appearances for the reserve side before his injury, scoring twice and registering three assists.
The setback came during a UEFA Youth League match against Eintracht Frankfurt, when Sama Nomoko suffered a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, along with injuries to both menisci.
He subsequently underwent surgery at Hospital de Barcelona, with the club’s medical staff initially putting his recovery time at around 12 months.
Despite the lengthy rehabilitation, Nomoko has continued working at the Ciutat Esportiva and was already running on an anti-gravity treadmill and completing strength exercises by June.
For Barcelona, protecting his future now could prove to be an important investment in another La Masia talent who still has plenty of time to fulfil his potential.
