Barcelona are reportedly eyeing a move for 25-year-old Dutch forward Donyell Malen, currently playing for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
According to SPORT, the Catalan giants are in the market for a versatile wide attacker ahead of next year’s transfer windows, and Malen has emerged as a potential target.
Malen’s journey has been eventful since joining Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in 2021. The Wieringen-born attacker spent most of his early years in the Netherlands, with a brief stint in Arsenal’s academy.
His breakout came during his time at PSV, where he showcased his immense potential.
At Dortmund, however, Malen has struggled for consistency, often showing glimpses of brilliance without establishing himself as a key player.
This season, he has managed four goals and one assist in 14 appearances across all competitions. Despite this, his market value remains high, with interest from several top clubs, including Premier League sides.
Barcelona’s interest may stem from the potential departure of Ferran Torres, who has been linked with a move back to England.
Malen, willing to accept a supporting role, could be a cost-effective addition, as his contract enters its final year in 2024. His availability could provide Barcelona with a much-needed boost in depth.
