Barcelona is said to be prepared to initiate talks with Andreas Christensen for a new contract at Camp Nou. The 28-year-old defender has had a difficult beginning to the 2024-25 season, despite his team leading the La Liga standings.
In the opening match, Christensen played 26 minutes in a narrow 2-1 win against Valencia at Estadio de Mestalla.
Later that month, he sustained an Achilles tendon injury which kept him out until the New Year and resulted in his omission from the squad for the first half of the season. Since his notable transfer from Chelsea to Barcelona in July 2022, Christensen has appeared in 75 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals.
Reports from Sport indicate that Barcelona is aiming to secure Christensen’s future despite his injury. The report suggests that Hansi Flick’s team plans to commence discussions with the Danish international regarding a fresh contract.
With Christensen’s existing agreement due to end in the summer of 2026, Barcelona is keen to preempt him from reaching the final year of his contract next year.
This could pose a setback for Manchester United, as they were reportedly interested in signing the 28-year-old during the most recent summer transfer window.
