Barcelona fans are almost used to not considering the Danish defender among the squad due to the lengthy injury crisis he has faced this season.
After hoping the defender would return in time for the season’s final stretch and become an option for Hansi Flick, given rest to Pau and Inigo, the player picked up a relapse and will sit out for an additional four weeks.
Although the Danish defender returned from the lengthy injury he suffered in the first match, where he played as a substitute, the player’s season seemed to be over after this recent relapse.
Christensen Relapse, Club Provides Update
Danish and Barcelona player Andreas Christensen has been an almost forgotten player at the club. However, many still hold the player in high esteem and believe he will be a perfect fit in the Flick style if he can stay fit.
Despite all the hope, injuries have hampered the integration of the defender into Flick’s matchday squad, opening the door wide for his exit in the summer.
Although it was reported this week that the player had been passed fit, it was reported this morning that the player picked up a relapse and will be out for four weeks.
Barcelona said of the player’s new injury update, “On the Saturday morning FC Barcelona training session, Andreas Christensen suffered an injury to the soleus muscle in his right leg and is expected to require about four weeks to recover. “Last February 25, the player was declared fully fit from a soleus injury just before the Copa del Rey game against Atlético Madrid, although the Dane was not used in that match. “The Saturday session at which the injury happened was the last before Barça take on Real Sociedad at the Estadi Olimpic on Sunday at 4.15 pm CET. On a sunny but blustery morning, the Tito Vilanova field was the venue at the Ciutat Esportiva.”
It remains to be seen whether the Dane will feature for the Catalan side this season before his potential exit from the club amid the signing of Jonathan Tah.
