Barcelona’s star midfielder’s future is secured until and unless a massive bid is placed.
The Dutch midfielder has been a rock under manager Hansi Flick, keeping an otherwise inexperienced and young midfield together.
According to Carpetas Blaugranas(CB), the player is Frenkie De Jong.
His deal expires in 2026, and Barcelona would be keen to convince him to sign a new contract, but finance is holding them back.
Sporting director Deco considers him one of the club’s future and is asking for a renewal.
The 27-year-old is, nevertheless, one of Barça’s best-paid players due to his past board contract.
The club is hoping for him to accept a wage reduction to bring him more in line with their new wage policy.
Unlike recent renewals of young talents Pedri and Gavi, the negotiations with de Jong may be more lengthy.
Regardless of the problems, de Jong is happy in Barcelona and is not going anywhere.
Unless somebody presents him with an offer he cannot refuse, he will remain at Camp Nou beyond 2026.
He is that technically gifted and possesses such leadership abilities that he cannot be replaced, and Barcelona will do its best to retain him as it looks to the future.
In the meantime, all indications are that de Jong will remain a central figure in Flick’s team.
