Barcelona’s recent run of fixtures has placed enormous physical and mental demands on Hansi Flick’s squad.
With a crucial Champions League group stage game and a string of tough La Liga fixtures ahead, player fitness has become a growing concern.
The Catalan giants have already been dealing with a number of injury setbacks this season, forcing Flick to rotate heavily while trying to maintain momentum.
The likes of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha have all returned from layoffs at various stages, but concerns persist over the toll on younger stars who have carried much of the attacking burden.
One such talent, who has been a focal point of Barca’s attack, found himself under the microscope following his latest performance on football’s biggest stage.
Lamine Yamal’s display in El Clasico has come under serious criticism, not only because of the high standards he has set for himself but also due to his pre-match comments that raised expectations.
Known for backing up his words with dazzling performances, this time the 18-year-old struggled to deliver when Barcelona needed him most.
Over the course of 90 minutes, Lamine Yamal completed only 50% of his dribbles, attempted 55 passes and failed to register a single accurate cross.
His usually fearless attacking presence seemed muted, leaving fans and analysts puzzled.
However, reports from El Chiringuito TV, via X, have revealed that Lamine Yamal was not fully fit and is still battling pubalgia, a painful groin condition that has affected him in recent weeks.
The youngster reportedly played through discomfort, which severely limited his ability to sprint and change direction, both vital aspects of his explosive style.
Witnesses even noted moments during the game when Yamal appeared to be in pain and signalled to teammates not to pass him the ball.
Despite his determination to play, the decision may have come at a cost, as his performance clearly reflected his ongoing struggle with the injury.
The condition restricts sharp movement and acceleration, two of Yamal’s greatest strengths, explaining why he appeared hesitant and less involved in the buildup.
With Hansi Flick now aware of the severity of the issue, Barcelona may be forced to rest their teenage star in upcoming games to allow a full recovery.
While it’s a difficult call given his importance to the squad, protecting Yamal’s long-term fitness could prove crucial for both club and country.
❌ “LAMINE TIENE IMPOTENCIA porque NO ESTÁ jugando al 100%”.
😕 “En el viaje de vuelta se le vio muy muy pensativo”.
