Barcelona is preparing for a big squad overhaul this summer, to alleviate some financial pressure and allow it to sign some new players.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona’s board has a plan to lower the payroll and abandon up to six players who don the Camp Nou.
The plan isn’t preposterous; they have to balance the books before they strengthen the squad for next season.
The club president, Joan Laporta, has spoken about being happy with their achievements so far this season, which include a domestic treble and a semi-final run in the Champions League, but he will soon face the tough decisions necessary to keep up the competitiveness of this team.
The players facing uncertain futures would include Ansu Fati, Ronald Araujo, Pau Victor, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, and Pablo Torre.
Araujo and Garcia might be valued members of the team, but they are also players who will be offered significant money by top European clubs; if an offer arrives, they likely can’t turn down, it would be honest to leave.
Fati seems highly likely to leave, meaning that it only comes down to whether Barcelona can secure Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen when it comes to Christensen’s decision!
Young players like Torre are being pursued by clubs like Villarreal and Real Sociedad, with sporting director Deco rather adamant about permanent sales with buy-back options rather than loan.
A large amount of money for Araujo would help put to use a considerable cash boost to allow Barcelona to conduct some deals.
Barcelona’s biggest task is preserving the prodigious talent of Lamine Yamal, with a five-year pre-contract already in place.
Yamal’s rapid progress and marketability will be a key component of the club’s future plans.
Manager Hansi Flick and Deco will talk soon to make these decisions, which have been delayed during the season.
