Barcelona look set to sign a left-winger in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the likes of Rafael Leao and Nico Williams being long-term targets.
Another player who has been admired by the Blaugrana for some time is Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, however, with the Reds’ recent form, any move for the Colombian this January would have been impossible.
According to Colombian outlet Antena 2, the transfer could become a possibility later this year, with Barça reportedly preparing an ‘imminent’ offer.
The report states that Barcelona have contacted the Premier League club to let them know they are willing to wait as long as it takes for Diaz’s signature.
It continues to say the Catalonian side are willing to offer €70million next summer, but they will wait until the end of his contract if that is what it takes.
The 28-year-old’s deal at Anfield is set to end in 2027 and talks between his representatives and Liverpool have reportedly stalled due to the current offers not reflecting his impact in the current side.
Another boost for Barça is what Diaz’s father said last year: “It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there,” he told Win Sports.
“So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him. There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”
This deal seems to hinge on Liverpool offering him a worthwhile contract, but if they do decide to sell him next summer then as Barcelona know, negotiations with the English side are always tough and they do not take less than they value their players for.
