Ronald Araújo, who was apparently one step away from joining Juventus in the January transfer window, has seemingly made a drastic u-turn.

The Uruguayan had been speaking to the Serie A side for some time and with game time not guaranteed under Hansi Flick, he had reportedly already told his teammates he was leaving.

Despite Barça actively trying to renew his contract, reports that his representatives had not been communicating Deco’s offers have recently been mentioned.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian Sporting Director has reportedly convinced the 25-year-old defender to stay at Barcelona.

The article states that last night was the decisive turning point in this story and now Araújo looks set to extend his contract, which currently expires in 2026.

It is also mentioned that the support from Hansi Flick and his teammates was another factor which made the Uruguayan confident that staying in Catalonia was the correct decision.

Araújo was already rumoured to be starting tonight’s game against Real Betis but now with this positive news, he could be starting the the Blaugrana for many years to come.
