With the summer transfer window on the horizon, Barcelona player’s future has become a hot topic in the media.
The attacker is on fire this season, one of the best-performing players in Europe, and he has made people wonder if the Ballon d’Or would be in the cards for him.
Though he is an important player, the negotiations for the various proposals in contract extension discussions have been bungled into a ‘blocking situation.’
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona’s administration has started the process of negotiating for the long-term future of the player after several years of maintaining the status quo of not renewing the contracts of any key stars.
The contract has been subject to negotiations, but not without conflicting proposals on the table.
The player and the club have been walking to a different tune in terms of the length of the contract and salary structure, leading to uncertainty in both parties being able to reach an agreement.
Barcelona backs the notion of extending the player’s contract as part of a structured plan, while the player would favour more variance on the terms of that contract.
The player in question is Raphinha, and he has a contract that runs until 2027.
The Brazilian winger has been a standout for Barcelona this season and has drawn interest from the best European clubs.
Although Raphinha is a key player, the two sides seem stuck.
One party wants to extend Raphinha’s contract by an extra year, whereas Raphinha just wants a straight two-year contract.
Further, while the two parties can agree on his salary, it does not meet Raphinha’s expectations, and Barcelona’s offer is likely not possible due to its salary curves under President Joan Laporta.
One area of agreement is that Raphinha would be willing to sign a contract with an €80 million release clause that corresponds with the club’s valuation of the player.
As we inch closer to the summer transfer window, rewinding how this all turns out with Raphinha will be a chapter in and of itself.
