Manchester City has received a recent inquiry from Ilkay Gundogan regarding a potential comeback from FC Barcelona, as stated in Catalunya Radio’s ‘La TdT’ program.
SPORT reported that with just around 90 minutes before Barcelona’s La Liga 2024/2025 season opener against Valencia, Gundogan had formally requested a transfer to leave the Catalan club during this summer.
According to RAC1’s Marta Ramon, Gundogan’s absence from head coach Hansi Flick’s strategies was seen as a tactic to compel him to make an exit.
Even though Flick, who previously appointed Gundogan as the captain of the German national team, expressed in an interview with Spanish media that he anticipates the midfielder to stay in Catalonia.
Flick commented, “I had a conversation with him to understand his sentiments ahead of the upcoming season. I know him well and appreciate him both as a player and an individual. We talked about various issues, but those details remain private. I have a strong feeling that he will remain.”
Nevertheless, a report from La TdT indicates that Gundogan has recently been in touch with City to explore the possibility of returning to the club.
