Barcelona is actively working to terminate a player’s contract to create financial flexibility for a high-profile signing this summer.

With the summer transfer window now open, Barcelona, after their triumph in La Liga, are due for a busy spell with all areas of the squad set to change.

The Spanish giants are eyeing several high-profile signings, including Marcus Rashford and Luis Diaz, but they are also looking to reduce huge amounts of wages to comply with Financial Fair Play.

This will involve Barcelona starting conversations for the termination of a player’s contract, which could send shockwaves around Europe and especially the Premier League.

The player in question is 29-year-old French defender Clement Lenglet, whose contract runs until June 2026.

Lenglet enjoyed a successful loan spell at Atletico Madrid and announced himself as a great player, but he doesn’t feature in new manager Hansi Flick’s plans.

Due to a massive salary of €16 million (£13.48 million) a year, Barcelona had attempted to sell him, but could not due to the expense of the annual salary, which has now brought about the decision to look for an early contract termination.

Both parties are eager to conclude the negotiations soon, possibly clearing the way for Lenglet to be a free agent.

The opportunity for Lenglet to become available may intrigue several Premier League clubs since he has spent time in England at Tottenham Hotspur.

Last season, he was part of Atletico Madrid, where he had good defensive play, which would have warranted interest from other clubs.

Atletico Madrid is also interested in making the move permanent once he becomes a free agent.

Yet, there is a chance for a Premier League return on the near horizon because of Lenglet’s ability and experience in helping teams adjust defensively.

As Barcelona continues to handle its financial restructuring, the outcome of these talks could shape the transfer Market with Lenglet’s future expected soon.
