Barcelona planned a HUGE sale this summer — report

Barcelona wanted to SELL a key player for €70M this summer.

Unexpected changes to Barcelona’s summer plans arose following an injury to Ronald Araujo.

According to journalist Victor Navarro, Barcelona had initially planned to offload Araujo during the summer transfer window. However, his injury prompted the club to reconsider their strategy.

Although receiving interest from other clubs, Barcelona made it clear that coach Hansi Flick regards Araujo as a vital player for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Despite publicly stating their intent to retain Araujo, Barcelona did not completely dismiss the possibility of a transfer, indicating that they would only entertain offers under specific circumstances.

Barcelona has assigned a high value to Araujo this summer, making any potential sale contingent on a substantial offer, likely exceeding €100 million.

The injury sustained by Araujo during a South American tournament significantly derailed Barcelona’s transfer plans.

Realizing that Araujo will have just one year left on his contract by next summer, Barcelona has initiated talks to extend his contract with an increased salary to mitigate the risk of losing him for free.
