Barcelona’s growing injury list has taken another worrying turn, and this time it’s a blow not just for the present, but for the club’s future as well.

Barcelona have been hit with yet another setback, with highly-rated youngster Juan Hernandez suffering a serious knee injury in recent days, as reported by SPORT.

The news follows an already difficult period for the club, with Lamine Yamal ruled out for the remainder of the season after picking up a hamstring issue against Celta Vigo, while Joao Cancelo also suffered a scare in the same match but has since been cleared of anything serious.

For Juan Hernandez, however, the outlook is far more concerning.

Early indications suggest the 18-year-old could miss the rest of the campaign, with further tests still required to determine the full extent of the knee injury.

It is a significant setback for Barca Atletic, where the attacking midfielder has been a key figure throughout the season.

Hernandez has featured in 30 matches, contributing four goals and six assists, and has steadily built a reputation as one of the standout prospects emerging from La Masia.

His development has not gone unnoticed at senior level either.

The youngster has trained with the first team on multiple occasions and has been included in matchday squads five times under Hansi Flick, highlighting just how highly he is rated internally.

Barcelona had recently moved to secure his long-term future, handing him a new deal running until 2028, with the option of an additional year, a clear sign of their belief in his potential.

There were even expectations that Hernandez would be involved in the first team’s pre-season plans this summer, offering him a platform to make the next step in his career.

From a wider perspective, this injury compounds what has already been a frustrating stretch for Barcelona.

Losing established stars is one thing, but setbacks to emerging talents disrupt the club’s long-term planning, especially at a time when La Masia continues to play a crucial role in shaping the squad.

For Hernandez, the focus will now shift to recovery.

And while this may delay his rise, the faith shown in him by the club suggests this is just a pause, not a derailment, in what could still be a very promising journey.
