Barcelona’s pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino seems to have come to an end, with reports suggesting that the 28-year-old is set to join Arsenal this summer.
Merino has emerged as a prime target for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is keen on bolstering his midfield for the upcoming Premier League season.
Despite interest from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, who are both eager to retain him in La Liga, Merino, whose contract with Real Sociedad has only a year left, seems uninterested in staying in La Liga.
Reports from Spain indicate that Barcelona’s chances of securing his signature are diminishing rapidly, leading to a potential transfer to Camp Nou being deemed “almost impossible,” as per SPORT.
In addition, the club’s insistence on signing Dani Olmo and Nico Williams has also delayed Merino’s signing to a point of no return.
