The winter transfer window has been quite busy for the Catalan club as they have been making a statement with the contract renewals of key players.
These past months have seen Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Gavi, Gerard Martin, and Pau Cubarsi extend their contracts with Barcelona to at least 2029.
Other key players were reported to have almost completed their contract extensions, including Robert Lewandowski, Inigo Martinez, Lamine Yamal, whose contract extension won’t be one to worry about, and Jules Kounde, whose agent had talks with the club about a potential 5-year extension.
Notwithstanding this bold move, Barcelona and Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s situation is becoming more unlikely amid the unclear future of the player.
Barcelona Pends Talks with de Jong until Summer
As reported by Marca, Barcelona has put on hold the contract renewal with Frenkie de Jong until the end of the 2024/2025 season as the Dutch midfielder remains uncertain about his next move.
Despite the reported meeting between Frenkie’s agent, Ali Dursun, and Barcelona’s sporting director last week, no progress was made regarding the situation.
Barcelona will be looking to reassess the performance of the Dutch midfielder at the end of the season, who is slowly finding his way into Flick’s starting XI, before re-igniting the talk about his contract renewal.
