Barcelona’s promising start to the season has come with its fair share of turbulence, as injuries continue to test the depth of the squad.

With both the senior and youth setups navigating a demanding fixture schedule, the Catalan giants have found themselves relying heavily on emerging talents from La Masia.

Recent performances from several academy prospects have been a silver lining, giving fans hope for the future amid challenging circumstances.

However, the latest setback has once again highlighted the club’s ongoing battle to maintain squad fitness across all levels.

Amidst this backdrop, Barcelona have been dealt a painful blow concerning one of their brightest young stars.

Barcelona starlet Victor Barbera is facing up to an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury earlier this month.

The 21-year-old, who has been a standout performer for Barca Atletic this season, was forced to undergo surgery on Tuesday morning to repair a thigh injury.

As confirmed in an official club statement released across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:

“Barca Atletic player Victor Barbera underwent successful surgery this Tuesday, October 28th for a rupture in the anterior rectus of his right leg.

“The intervention was carried out at the Hospital de Barcelona and was carried out by doctors Jordi Puigdellivol and Marc Aguilar, from the Club’s Medical Services.”

It has been further revealed that Victor Barbera is expected to spend around five months on the treatment table in Catalunya’s capital — a huge setback for both the player and the team.

The timing of the injury is particularly unfortunate, as Barbera had begun the campaign in outstanding form.

Before being sidelined, the young striker had racked up eight direct goal contributions in just seven appearances, showcasing his eye for goal and growing importance to the side.

For a Barca Atletic outfit already light on options at centre-forward, Barbera’s absence leaves a significant void that will be difficult to fill.

This comes after Andreas Christensen also suffered an injury blow to increase Barca’s injury list.

The club’s medical staff will now focus on ensuring his full recovery, with hopes high that the 21-year-old can return stronger ahead of the next campaign.
