Barcelona failed to sign key Serie A player last summer

Barcelona, Liverpool among four clubs that failed with summer move for Serie A Star.

Barcelona and Liverpool were both interested in signing Piotr Zielinski during the summer transfer window, but the Polish midfielder ultimately chose Inter Milan.

According to the Italian publication Inter Live, four clubs, including Barcelona and Liverpool, pursued the former Napoli star before he completed a free transfer to Inter Milan.

Zielinski himself has confirmed that Atletico Madrid and Juventus were also eager to secure his services. Despite the interest from abroad, the 30-year-old opted to remain in Serie A, sealing a move to Inter Milan.

For Liverpool, missing out on Zielinski will come as a disappointment, as the Reds are in need of reinforcements in midfield. The Polish international could have been a cost-effective and high-quality addition to their squad. It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp’s side will target another central midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January.

Barcelona, similarly, would have greatly benefited from Zielinski’s experience and creativity in midfield. With the club still navigating financial challenges, securing value-for-money signings remains a top priority. Zielinski’s arrival would have been a major boost for the Blaugrana as they look to strengthen their options in the center of the park.

Now an Inter player, Zielinski joined the Italian giants in July on a Bosman deal, a move that underscores what a bargain signing he could have been for either Barcelona or Liverpool.
