Barcelona’s preparations for the early stages of the La Liga season have been overshadowed by mounting concerns over player fitness.
Hansi Flick has already faced questions about the balance of his squad, with senior defenders under intense pressure as the calendar fills up with both domestic and European fixtures.
The Catalan giants have been heavily reliant on their youth system to provide depth, with several academy products stepping into training sessions alongside the first team.
Flick has publicly stressed that opportunities will be given to promising youngsters, particularly at a time when squad rotation is crucial.
One of those prospects, however, has now been struck by a significant setback just as he was looking to make an impression.
Barcelona confirmed, via X, this week that highly-rated teenager Landry Farre has suffered an ankle injury which will sideline him for close to two months.
The news comes as a major frustration for the 18-year-old, who has been tipped by coaches as a defender with the potential to progress into the first-team picture in the not-so-distant future.
Landry Farre, a Spanish youth international, had impressed during the summer as part of the group of youngsters invited to join Flick and the senior squad for pre-season.
Those sessions were seen as vital in helping him gain experience against elite-level competition, while also showing the coaching staff his readiness to step up.
After returning to action with Barca Atletic, the centre-back was understood to be targeting further involvement with the senior squad over the coming months.
That ambition has now been halted, with Barcelona’s medical team revealing that tests confirmed a sprained right ankle.
According to the club, his recovery time is expected to be around eight weeks.
The setback will mean Landry misses a crucial spell of matches, both for Barca Atletic and any potential senior call-ups he might have earned.
Barcelona supporters, meanwhile, will be hoping that this injury proves nothing more than a brief pause in what has so far been a promising rise for one of the most talked-about academy graduates in recent years.
