Despite starting the season with a wealth of centre-backs, FC Barcelona have relied heavily on the pairing of Iñigo Martínez and Pau Cubarsí for much of the 2024-25 campaign.
This is primarily due to long-term injuries sidelining key defenders Ronald Araújo and Andreas Christensen.
Araújo, however, is nearing a return and could feature in one of Barcelona’s next two matches. His recovery comes at a crucial time, especially as contract renewal discussions with the Uruguayan are progressing smoothly.
Meanwhile, Christensen faces a longer road to recovery, having undergone ankle surgery about a month ago. The Danish defender, valued at €30 million, is expected back by year’s end or early January.
Despite his absence, Christensen remains a hot commodity, attracting interest from Premier League clubs and Serie A giants Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan.
Although he has expressed a desire to stay at Barcelona, limited opportunities might push him toward a move elsewhere.
