With new manager Hansi Flick at the helm, Barcelona are firing on all cylinders. However, recent bold transfer rumors suggest Flick and his team aren’t planning to let Real Madrid reclaim their position at the top without a fight.
BILD’s chief reporter, Christian Falk, has reported that there is substance to speculation linking Flick with a reunion with Bayern Munich’s star left-back Alphonso Davies. The world-class defender could be set for a move to Barcelona, where he would reunite with former teammate Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona are also rumored to be eyeing other Bayern talents, including defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who, like Davies, is set to become a free agent in 2025. The Blaugrana have a track record of making key free-agent signings, and Davies and Kimmich are expected to be among the most coveted players on the market when their contracts expire.
However, Real Madrid are also heavily linked to both Davies and Kimmich, with a particular focus on strengthening their midfield following a lackluster start to the 2024/25 season without Toni Kroos. The left-back position, though, is a priority, as Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia have struggled, despite fans’ warnings to the club’s leadership.
Under new coach Vincent Kompany, Davies has returned to top form this season, with Bayern Munich’s leadership hopeful that they can convince the Canadian to renew his contract before he reaches free agency.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s lack of a solid starting option at left-back heightens the stakes—should Flick manage to lure Davies to Barcelona, it would be a significant blow to their rivals, who have had Davies in their sights for the past two years.
