Barcelona are reportedly nearing the acquisition of Jonathan Tah, Bayer Leverkusen’s 28-year-old defender, who is also a target for Manchester United.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Catalan club is leading the race to sign the German international, leaving the Premier League giants trailing in their pursuit.
Tah is set to leave Leverkusen next year, opting against extending his contract with the Bundesliga champions. His decision to explore a fresh challenge has drawn attention from several top European clubs.
Among these, Barcelona and Manchester United have emerged as the primary contenders, but the Blaugrana are now in pole position to secure his signature.
Barcelona’s interest in Tah stems from their need to reinforce their defensive line.
Questions remain over Ronald Araújo’s long-term availability, while Andreas Christensen’s future at Camp Nou is uncertain, with the club possibly looking to cash in on the Dane. Tah, with his experience and physical presence, is seen as an ideal addition to bolster their backline.
Manchester United, meanwhile, could use another centre-back for Ruben Amorim’s three-defender system.
Despite signing two central defenders in the summer, Tah remains an appealing option. However, with Barcelona advancing negotiations, the Red Devils may find it challenging to change the German’s mind.
