Hansi Flick arrived at FC Barcelona at one of the club’s toughest moments, taking over from a trophyless season and amid serious financial woes that limited summer signings.
Despite all that, the German manager has been able to turn the club around very quickly, molding the team into one of the most competitive teams in Europe, capable of competing for every trophy.
Flick has been a student of the club’s lifestyle, learning about its philosophy and placing special emphasis on familiarizing himself with La Masia’s youth system.
According to Diario Sport, he has now requested the club accelerate the construction of a first-team residence at Barcelona’s training complex, the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
On his first visit to the complex, Flick noted that unlike other elite clubs—Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, even the Spanish national team—Barça did not have on-site overnight accommodation for players.
They currently stay in hotels before matches, but Flick is sure that an on-site home would improve preparation, recovery, and esprit de corps.
Sporting director Deco also concurred and considered the project before Flick’s arrival.
Now the plans have been sanctioned by the board, and the proposed building is a two or three-story building close to the Tito Vilanova pitch.
While the first team will be the main users, the facility will also be available to other club teams when needed.
Even though the project is in its nascent stage with no specified deadline for its completion, Flick’s insistence is evidence of his eagerness to maximize every aspect for greatness.
By being adamant about having modern infrastructure, he wishes to provide a platform on which the players can purely concentrate on performance.
His action, along with tactical acumen, is evidence that Barcelona will do everything in its power to regain the top spot in European football.
For the fans, it is another reason to believe that, under Flick, the club is constructing towards a better future.
